Investing in Your Business: 5 UNlimiting Beliefs

Investing in your business is about more than spending money. Early on, even small expenses can feel significant. That’s why it’s essential to be strategic and have a healthy mindset about putting your money back into your business.

Eventually, you will reach a point where you cannot do everything in your business — at least not if you want it to thrive and scale!

I have personally experienced the benefits of investing in my business. And once I opened myself up to those investments, I opened up my business to new opportunities and growth. You can elevate your business, too, as long as you trust your gut and remember that professional coaching, accounting, copywriting, and design are not just expenses — they are investments!

This begins with five investment mindset shifts and nipping those limiting money beliefs in the bud. Instead, believe that investing in your business will…

1. Open you up to new opportunities and potential.

When you go into business for yourself, you know you’ll have to spend money to make money and grow. Investing in your business will help bring in new clients and generate repeat business.

Early on, I invested in professional photography and copywriting for SkyHouse. Both have helped me present a consistent brand that stands out and conveys an authentic message to my dream clients. These professionals brought an outside perspective and efficiently and effectively captured my brand’s essence.

When you work with a business coach, purchase new equipment for your business, or partner with a brand designer, you set your business up for success by creating visibility and empowering yourself to do your job better.

2. Bring you greater return.

Switch your money mindset to believing that it is easy to make money. Move forward with an abundance mindset rather than one of scarcity. And remember, making wise investments in your business will make you more money!

When you have the chance to invest in your company, envision the return on that investment. How will it help you bring in new clients, sell more products, and generate more profits?

For example, purchasing new equipment, taking a course, or getting a special certification allows you to deliver a higher quality product/service or offer a unique service you’ve always wanted. Joining that organization or networking group could pay for itself when you land that one perfect client.

3. Help become a better CEO and a better you.

A healthy investment mindset gives you the tools and freedom to work ON rather than IN your business. You can focus on the things you do best, your zone of genius. You’ll also be more productive daily by working on your strengths.

A business coach can help you build confidence and leadership skills. Taking courses keeps you ahead of the curve, equipping you to apply new skills and knowledge to your products or services. And hiring experts to take care of projects that are not in your forté saves you time and money.

Perhaps you’re running a boutique hotel, and your days are filled with managing your staff and ensuring guests have a relaxing, memorable experience. A website redesign and brand identity are probably not in your wheelhouse. But when you hire a brand designer, she can help you convey that same feeling and experience from your website to your social media content to your packaging materials.

4. Create more time and space for the things you love.

Investing in your business is investing in you. You’ll be able to spend your time and energy on business-building activities and the projects that you are most passionate about. You can even choose to make more time for family, friends, and your favorite hobbies.

Ever feel dread thinking about doing your books? Or started researching color palettes and logo concepts just to get completely overwhelmed? Investing in the right experts, tools, and systems can also help you reduce stress.

It is mentally draining and inefficient to tackle tasks outside our expertise. And you didn’t launch your own business to be stuck doing things you don’t enjoy or are not as effective at. Plus, partnering with professionals like a brand designer, photographer, or accountant ensures those areas of your business are done right.

5. Show yourself and the world that you are serious about your business.

When you know that you’re putting your hard-earned money back into your business, you’ll be even more driven to see that return on your investment. Whether outsourcing certain business functions or paying for a program or product, you will be motivated to get those desired results.

Not to mention, your audience will take note! For example, studies show that it takes about 0.05 seconds for people to form an opinion about your website. They'll simply bounce if your site is outdated or difficult to navigate. But if you invest in a professionally designed and optimized website, visitors will take your brand much more seriously.

When you invest in marketing, design, skills, and business operations, your brand will stand out and become an industry authority.

Invest in Your Business + Invest in Yourself

You will launch your business to the next level when you shift to an investment mindset. You’ll also experience better work-life balance and be happier overall, especially when you trust an expert to do the things you don’t enjoy.
